Reckless Teens In Court
Posted on Thursday, June 25 @ 10:54:18 MDT by michael

Montana News

From The K-B--G News Center...

THE TWO JUVENILES WHO LED BILLINGS POLICE ON A HIGH-SPEED CHASE MONDAY NIGHT THROUGHOUT THE CITY HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AS MATTHEW CAMPBELL AND KELLIE LaFOUNTAIN.

THE TWO 17-YEAR-OLDS APPEARED TUESDAY IN YOUTH COURT.

CAMPBELL, THE DRIVER OF THE STOLEN PICKUP TRUCK THAT WAS FLEEING POLICE, IS CHARGED WITH FELONY THEFT AND OBSTRUCTING AND RECKLESSLY ELUDING A PEACE OFFICER.  HE IS ALSO BEING HELD ON AN ARREST WARRANT OUT OF MUSSELSHELL COUNTY.  LaFOUNTAIN, THE PASSENGER IN THE TRUCK, HAS ALSO BEEN CHARGED WITH OBSTRUCTION OF A PEACE OFFICER AND POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA.

THE CHASE BEGAN A LITTLE AFTER EIGHT (8:08 PM) MONDAY NIGHT AT THE DAIRY QUEEN AT 1045 GRAND AVENUE.  A CITIZEN REPORTED THAT HE HAD SEEN HIS STOLEN PICKUP TRUCK IN THE DRIVE-THRU LANE.

AN OFFICER ARRIVED AND ORDERED CAMPBELL TO TURN OFF THE TRUCK AND GET OUT, BUT THE BOY IGNORED THE OFFICER AND SOMEHOW MANAGED TO GET AROUND OTHER VEHICLES AND EXIT THE DRIVE-THRU.

HE FLED WEST ON GRAND WITH TWO PATROL CARS IN PURSUIT, TURNED SOUTH ON 24TH STREET WEST, AND HEADED BACK EAST ON BROADWATER.  MEANWHILE, ANOTHER OFFICER LAID DOWN A SPIKE STRIP AT THE INTERSECTION OF EIGHTH STREET WEST AND BROADWATER.  CAMPBELL HIT THE SPIKE STRIP, WHICH CAUSED THE PASSENGER SIDE TIRE TO DEFLATE, BUT HE CONTINUED, CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE STOLEN PICKUP.

CAMPBELL WAS FINALLY DRIVING ON THE RIM AND CAME TO A STOP AT MONTANA AVENUE AND NORTH 27TH STREET.  BOTH TEENAGERS THEN BAILED OUT AND TRIED TO RUN, BUT WERE CAUGHT AFTER A SHORT FOOT CHASE.

BOTH REMAIN IN THE YOUTH DETENTION CENTER.
